TrackGPT glossary

Plain-language definitions of the AI search and visibility terms behind getting your store recommended in ChatGPT.

  • Agentic commerce

Agentic commerce is commerce in which AI agents act on a shopper's behalf — discovering, comparing, and sometimes completing purchases — rather than the person browsing and buying directly.

  • AI share of voice

AI share of voice is the share of AI-generated answers, across a defined set of prompts, in which your brand appears — measured relative to the competitors that also appear, so it reflects your presence in AI answers versus theirs.

  • Generative engine optimization

Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of optimizing your brand and content so that generative AI engines — like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI Overviews — mention, cite, and recommend you in their generated answers.

  • LLM seeding

LLM seeding is the practice of deliberately placing information about your brand across the sources large language models read — so that models learn about you and are more likely to mention or recommend you in their answers.

  • Prompt tracking

Prompt tracking is the practice of running a fixed set of prompts against an AI engine on a schedule and monitoring the answers over time — which brands are mentioned, in what order, and citing which sources.

  • Query fanout

Query fanout is the technique where an AI search engine takes a single user prompt and expands it into multiple related sub-queries, runs them behind the scenes, and synthesizes the results into one answer.

  • Share of model

Share of model is the percentage of a language model's answers, across a set of relevant prompts, that mention your brand — measured against the competitors mentioned in the same answers, as the AI-era analog of share of voice.
